Understanding The Lunar Nodes: The North Node and South Node in Astrology

Last month the North Node and the South Node ended their eighteen month tour of Aries and Libra transiting into Pisces and Virgo. Traditionally, the North Node is perceived as the future and the South Node is perceived as the past. The North Node gives and the South Node removes. While these can both be true in some cases I would like to offer a third take on the Nodes of the Moon. 

We all know that the moon controls the tide. On one shore the tide rushes away while on the opposite shore the tide surges in. I feel that

In this sense things are not necessarily lost or gained - they are merely transferred from one shore to another. 

For example, the South Node is currently transiting Virgo while the North Node is transiting Pisces from January of 2025 to July of 2026. If you have a Virgo Ninth House and a Pisces Third House then you will likely experience Ninth House topics such as higher learning, books and publishing, religion and belief systems, morals, philosophy, the legal system, foreign places, concepts of right and wrong, etc. flowing to your Third House of learning, thinking, understanding, communication, community, commerce, reading and writing, etc. This can manifest with you studying a Ninth House topic therefore the higher knowledge from the Ninth House is flowing into your personal knowledge of the Third House. You could also meet someone in your local community who represents a Ninth House topic (a lawyer, a professor or mentor, someone from a foreign land, etc.) who expands your knowledge of Ninth House topics through your relationship with them. 

In another example, let’s say that you have the North Node transiting your Pisces First House and the South Node transiting your Virgo Seventh House. The First House is the House of Self and the Seventh House is the House of Committed Love and Partnerships. Many astrologers will tell you that this transit can result in the relationship ending or losing your partner in some way. However, that does not have to be the case. It can simply mean that you are going through a period where you will be receiving more support from your partner as the energy is flowing from the relationship house to your personal house or you meet someone who is genuinely supportive of you and loves you for who you are. Your partner could be encouraging or inspiring you to make positive improvements in yourself or pursue a personal goal or aspiration. This could signify a relationship bringing out the best in you. You could be taking a leadership role in your partnership, or learning to prioritize your needs within the needs of the relationship. 

Ask yourself, how do you want this transit to manifest? Our thoughts are powerful conductors of energy. The placement of The Nodes is simply showcasing an area of our life where energy is going to be flowing. Your thoughts and personal energy are the conductor or director of the energy so think according to your heart's desires. Pray on it. Journal. Meditate. Most importantly, monitor your thoughts. Pay attention to what you are thinking and consider how those thoughts are directing the energy in your life. 

Affirmations, prayers, or mantras are beneficial in directing our thoughts, because when we catch ourselves thinking out of alignment we have a go-to way to redirect ourselves and get back on track. This is why it is important to use a method which “clicks” for you. You’ll know when it clicks, because as your thoughts are redirected your feelings will follow. Your thoughts and feelings are also much like the Nodes of the Moon. Your thoughts are your guiding North Node, and your feelings are your supportive South Node. Your thoughts must lead your feelings, not the other way around.

I also find it helpful to know that when I am consciously directing my thoughts that I am speaking directly to my higher power whether you wish to call our higher power God, The Universe, Spirit, etc. I know that I am speaking directly to Divine Intelligence and I believe this is the difference between prayer and “mindlessly” or “robotically” affirming in which it feels like you are merely repeating something over and over to yourself. 

Prayer is powerful, because of the belief behind it. Prayer is consciously directing your thoughts and knowing that you are connecting with the one true power of the universe which is the same creative force living within us all. It is the same creative force responsible for creating quantum mechanics, physics, astrology, biology, our magnificent Earth, our mind blowing Universe, and everyone and everything in it including you, my love. You are beautiful and magnificent. 

Today, I urge you to look around in wonder at all that which is before you, and connect with your higher power. All you have to do is think and allow yourself to open your mind and at least begin to believe in the possibility that we have a divine force within us and all around us overflowing with the desire to help us create the life of our dreams.
